The documentary "Los caminos del cajón" (The ways of the box-drum) is an interesting and rigurous film in which its director and producer, Paolo de Gregorio, has tracked the origins and development of the box-drum, originally from Peru, that has now become universal.
Recording and gathering unedited footage of performers and creators, from Peru, through Cuba and reaching Spain to where it became one of the main flamenco instruments thanks to Paco de Lucía and then went on to become part of many other music styles.
Featuring incredible images of the Peruvian master Cotito, a video of Paco de Lucía with Ruben Dantas and Manolito Soler on box-drums, the virtuoso Indian musician Zakir Hussain, giving his version of the box-drum and master classes by the Cuban percussionist Angá.
