This ninth volume of the legendary series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" contains the following four chapters:
MANOLO CARACOL (I)
In his last performance, far away from tablaos and stages, Manolo Caracol offers us the best of his artistry in a party that was held in his newly unveiled house, surrounded by his children, Luisa and Enrique, his granddaughters, his son-in-law Arturo Pavón, and close friends like the cantaora (female flamenco singer) Adela la Chaqueta, the poet Rafael de León, and the guitarist Melchor de Marchena.
THE SAETA
A thorough journey into the world of the saeta and its numerous variations in different Andalusian towns: Alcalá de Guadaira, Seville, Arcos de la Frontera, Cádiz, Jerez, Córdoba, Málaga… All the tradition that this style encloses, including primitive rituals that have survived the years that have gone by.
FROM DESPEÑAPERROS UP
A programme in which we will become acquainted with the flamenco singing that development in cities such as Barcelona, Salamanca or Toledo, where the settled gypsy communities, alongside migration flows, gave rise to the evolution of flamenco. [Despeñaperros is the mountain pass that is the most common route, by car or bus, when travelling south from the Meseta Central, or central plateau, into Andalusia]
LA PERRATA
Although she had been performing forever in private and family parties, María la Perrata was already fifty years old when she recorded her first album; encouraged by her sons, Pedro Peña and Juan Peña el Lebrijano, she turned professional, contributing a repertoire of expressive and musical forms that were previously unreleased.
Specialists in the field consider the series "Rito y Geografía del Cante" the best series about flamenco ever, and it constitutes an audio-visual document of invaluable worth and significance. It is an exhaustive study concerning artists, styles, geographical and historical contexts that enjoyed the assistance and advisory work of the most prestigious flamencologists of the time.
The series has been re-edited, with a careful restoration and re-mastering work, involving both the sound and images. This new edition is published in the format of a DVD-book: the DVD features over two hours' worth of performances, interviews and reports; the book contains in-depth information about artists and flamenco styles.
The complete series is made up of twenty-four volumes, which can be purchased individually or in packs, each of which contains four volumes. Each volume contains four chapters of the original series and, thus, each case or pack contains 16 chapters of the original series.
