At last the historical CD “Yerbagüena” by Pepe Habichuela has been transcribed by the master Enrique Vargas as part of his “Grandes Guitarras Flamencas de Hoy” collection. Featuring two volumes and with express permission by the artist.

The first volume includes the tracks:
- “Yerbagüena (Oriente)” (rumba)
- “Bangalore Krishna” (bulería)
- “A mi chaché Miguel” (soleá)
- “Se la llevó Dios” (malagueña from Cádiz)

This record can be considered historic, being the first gipsy-Indian fusion album, as India is considered flamenco’s historic homeland. What amazes here is how Pepe’s pure flamenco guitar combines with the florid oriental melodies of the group Bolywood Strings.

The transcription was complicated due to the abundance of instruments, several guitar tracks, up to three on occasions, vocals etc. Surprisingly the master Vargas has not only transcribed the guitar tracks but also the main parts of Bollywood Strings’ instruments; the lute, mandolin and the vocals for the second guitar. Thereby offering material, practically inexistent up to now, for flamenco trios. However, it has to be said that all the pieces are suitable for guitar solos, making this publication accessible to both soloists and groups.

Like in all his books, Enrique Vargas gives explanations of the styles included on the CD, the foot rhythm, key, the main melodic and harmonic language of each style and a detailed analysis of the more difficult falsettas with explanations of each artists personal style.
